BetaThe addon is still being tested. Expect bugs, and expect things to change. Sample dataEvery fighter and duel shown here is made up.
Brawlers' Guild is an addon for World of Warcraft: Forever. It watches your duels and keeps a ladder for every level bracket of each faction. These pages show the same ladders the addon shows in the game.
A season is one calendar month on the server's clock. Ratings start again at 1500 each month. Lifetime wins and losses are kept, and so is each season's final ladder. A season takes late results for a week after it ends; then its ladder is final.
These exist only on hardcore realms, where death is permanent. There they are rated like any other duel, marked with a skull, and counted in a record of their own as well. On any other realm there is no such duel, and neither the addon nor these pages show anything of it.
Each faction's ladder has one referee, a named character. The referee's copy of the addon takes each loser's confirmation, works out the ratings and tells both fighters. The addon's window says who your faction's referee is, and whether they are about. Why a referee?
The referee's computer signs the standings with a private key that never leaves it. Every copy of the addon checks that signature before it shows a ladder, and this site refuses any upload that doesn't carry it. A ladder somebody edited will not pass.
You can check the standings this site holds for yourself, here in your browser. The check names the public key it used. The same key is written in the addon's Snapshot.lua, so you can compare the two.
Everyone who duels with the addon is listed. Type /brawl optout in the game to leave: your duels stop counting, and the referee's next standings no longer name you, so you drop off the ladders, the recent fights and this site. It covers every character on your game account, and your opponents keep their results against you. /brawl optout off puts you back with your duels as they were. The final ladders of seasons that closed before you left stay as they were signed.
Addons can't reach the internet, and World of Warcraft gives them no server to share. Each copy of Brawlers' Guild runs on its own player's computer and only hears the duels fought while it is online. For one ladder that everyone sees, and that nobody can rewrite, one copy has to keep the official record for each faction. That copy is the referee's.
Without a refereeEach player's addon keeps its own ladder from the duels it happened to hear. No two agree.
With oneEvery result goes to one place, and everyone sees the same ladder, in the game and on this site.
Without a refereeWhat a win is worth depends on both fighters' ratings at the time. Worked out on different computers, in a different order, the same win would be worth different points on each.
With oneEvery result is rated in one place, one after another, so it is worth the same to everyone.
Without a refereeAn addon's saved data is a plain file. Anyone could put themselves on top and hand that ladder round.
With oneThe referee's computer signs the standings with a key that never leaves it. Every copy of the addon, and this site, checks the signature, so an edited ladder never shows.
Without a refereeEach copy would keep the rules itself, and a changed copy could simply skip them.
With oneRepeat duels count for less, only ten a day against one opponent count, both fighters must be in the same bracket, and losses left unconfirmed are marked. Applied once, for everyone.
PROTOCOL.md, in the addon's folder. The ladder you see is the last one the referee signed, handed on from player to player. Your addon checks the signature whoever handed it over, so it is the referee's ladder either way. Duels fought in the meantime wait in your addon, not official yet, and count once the referee has them.
One character for each faction, run by the addon's makers on the computer that holds the signing key. The addon's window names your faction's referee in its header, and says whether they are about.
The addon checks the referee's signature before it shows any ladder handed on by another player. You can check the standings this site holds too, in your browser: see how the standings are signed.
Brawlers' Guild is free. It works for both fighters only when both run it, so bring whoever you duel.
This is a beta. The addon is still being tested: expect bugs, and expect things to change from one version to the next.
Interface/AddOns folder so that it holds a folder named BrawlersGuild./brawl to open the window, click the guild's emblem on the minimap, or set a key for it in Settings.Duel as you always do. When a duel ends the addon records it. If your opponent runs the addon too, the loser's addon confirms the result and the referee makes it official. Why a referee?
